Your exploration of Orcas Island will take you to the quaint hamlets of Deer Harbor, Westsound, Orcas and Olga. The largest and hilliest of all the islands, Orcas provided summer shell fishing grounds for the Lummi Indians until the settlement years of the 1800’s. Farming, fishing, and logging eventually became the primary areas of commerce, but remain so for only a few of today's residents. The population is clustered in tiny havens where you’ll find hand-crafted works of art created by island artisans, small restaurants, and espresso stands featuring locally brewed coffee. The commercial center of the island is Eastsound Village, on the north end of the island. Moran State Park is home to Cascade, Twin and Mountain Lakes, and Mt. Constitution, the highest point in the islands, where your view will extend from Vancouver, B.C. to Mt. Rainier. Orcas has an area of 56.9 square miles.
