Naturalist Island is located near the mouth of the Hunter River and Prince Frederick Harbour. In February 2003, the Western Australian Naturalists’ Club submitted the name Naturalists Island to the Department of Land Administration’s (DOLA) Geographics Names Committee & the name was given official approval. Attractions near by include the Mitchell River National Park, Mitchell Plateau and Mitchell Falls.
