Achnacarry, home of the Camerons of Locheil, chiefs of the Clan Cameron, since the 1660s is situated between Loch Arkaig and Loch Lochy in Highland Council Area. Achnacarry House, which dates from 1802, was designed by James Gillespie Graham and replaced an earlier building burnt down to the ground in 1746 as a reprisal for the 'gentle Locheil's' role in the Jacobite Rising. During the Second World War Achnacarry was used as a Commando training centre. There is a museum dedicated to the Clan Cameron in the settlement.
