Green Island Cabin. This cabin is located about 60 miles by boat from Whittier. Because of its remoteness, it gets relatively little use. It is situated in old-growth forest at the head of Gibbon Anchorage, a 2-3 mile long maze of islets and protected back channels, in a wildlife-rich area that also offers good halibut fishing. One side of the cabin - the front porch side - has a sweeping view across 50 miles of open water to mainland mountains bordering the eastern side of the Sound. The other side faces Gibbon Anchorage. The Green Is. cabin is truly a palatial dream for an adventurer in a chair. It has a broad deck around all four sides that is also protected from rain by the cabin's overhanging roof. A sturdy boardwalk runs to an accessible outhouse (with a great view!), near where the photo above was taken. A similar boardwalk runs from the cabin deck 100 yards or so through the woods to the beach, where it turns into a fiberglass grid that extends below water.
