The Boothia Peninsula (32 300 km2) is the most northerly point of mainland North America. A desolate, treeless peninsula about 250 km long, it is named for Sir Felix Booth, a British distiller who financed an expedition to the area in 1829. There is an airfield at TALOYOAK on the west coast. Residents rely on carving, and on traditional fishing, hunting, and trapping.
