Safi is a city located in western Morocco, by the Atlantic Ocean. It is a charming city surrounded by a thriving industrial port. The city is the main fishing port in the country (sardine fishery). The salty little fish are huge industry, as is the city's prized pottery. A Safi specialty, the handcrafted Moroccan designs are passed on for generations. Visit the Potters Quarter to see the artisans in action crafting bright exotic patterns on tiles and plates, perhaps one of the best places in Morocco to buy pottery of all shapes and patterns, Safi is a great city for sight seeing and window-shopping. Also the site of many old ruins, a visit to Safi is not complete without a tour of the old Portuguese prison the Kechla, and the most photographed building in Safi, the Dar el Bahar castle.
